Bring on Spring!
A few tips to help Spring arrive
Although Spring is approaching, there may still be a few snowstorms left. Now is the time to check that your snow blower or shovels are in good working order. If you need repairs or replacements, get them now.
As snow melts and Spring showers arrive, your roof and gutters can be vulnerable to water damage if they’re not properly maintained. This month, take a moment to inspect your roof for any damage and clear out debris from your gutters to prevent blockage.
We know that with these warmer temperatures, mud can become a real problem. Place mats at your entryways to trap dirt and water before it makes its way through your home. You can also revitalize your carpets and rugs with a deep carpet cleaning or professional rug wash to help bring back your home’s cleanliness as you welcome the new season.
Ensure that all door and window seals are in good condition to maintain energy efficiency and prevent drafts. Visually inspect the weatherstripping or rubber seals around all doors and windows. Look for any cracks, tears, or gaps. On a windy day or using a lighter or candle, check for drafts around the seals by moving the flame near the edges. If the flame flickers or moves, there is a leak. If you notice any damage, consider replacing the weatherstripping or rubber seals to prevent energy loss and water penetration.
As it is daylight saving time, take this opportunity to check your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms to ensure they’re working properly and replace the batteries if necessary. Also, check your HVAC to see if the you need to replace the filters to ensure clean air circulation.
Identify any larger projects you might want to tackle in the coming months, such as re-painting, remodeling, or landscaping. Use this time to come up with a schedule and plan to ensure these projects get done.
As the days get longer and the temperature starts to rise, these simple tasks will help ensure that your home is ready for the fresh energy of Spring!
